Author Note
A couple of years ago I read a non-fiction book that espoused the idea that if you do what you love, the rest will follow. This is a theme that many people struggle to balance with ârealityâ through their lifetimes. Do we pursue our dreams even when we canât see how those dreams will pay the bills or keep our families secure? Or do we âdo the right thingâ and follow the traditional paths laid out by society?
I wanted to explore this theme with Evie and Dimitriâs story. They are both trapped by social expectations and have spent their lives living upâor, in Evieâs case, living downâto those standards at great personal cost to themselves. Their relationship allows both of them to explore who they truly want to be.
Of course itâs easy to say âfollow your dreamsâ. The truth is, the reality of doing it is a lot harder. What I like best about this story is that Dimitri and Evie donât simply say, âTo hell with societyâweâll strike out for ourselves.â Thatâs not how it works for themâor for us. What makes this story special is how they find a way through all that without compromising and without jeopardising othersâultimately, this is a story about loveâs great balancing act.
I hope you enjoy Evie and the Prince of Kuban in their story. Hereâs a teaser for youâlook for May and Beatriceâs stories next, and beyond that look for a chance to meet four other Princes of Kuban in a new Bronwyn Scott series.

Chapter One
August 10th, 1821
Evie Milham desperately wanted to get into his trousers. Judging from the extraordinary amount of females crammed into Little Westburyâs assembly-room-cum-lecture hall this warm August night, she wasnât the only one. Although, Evie doubted the rest of the female population wanted into them for the same reason.
Regardless of female motive, there was no disputing this was the most well-attended archaeological lecture in the history of West Sussex, perhaps in the history of England. Not even the Elgin Marbles had engendered such an enthusiastic response in retrieving the past. Then again, the Elgin Marbles didnât look like him, Dimitri Petrovich, Prince of Kuban. Evie was certain he could talk about pickled herring and still draw a crowd. He was tall, with sleek dark hair that flowed over his shoulders, his face chiselled with strong lines that hinted at exotic antecedents. Women would travel miles to stare at those cheekbones with their high slant. And his clothes, oh, those clothes! He wore them like a godâs own mantle. Evieâs fingers started to twitch in anticipation. How she wanted to get her hands on those trousers! If she could just study them up close for a few moments! Whoever his tailor was, the man was a genius.
