Her protector proves heâs much more than a cowboy spy in Dana Martonâs first novel of her HQ: Texas series.
Moses Mann didnât need to be in an interrogation room to be intimidating. Molly Rogers found that out the hard way. Her brother had been accused of smuggling and murder, and now Moses considered her a suspect, as well. But what type of dirty little secrets did he expect to find in a single motherâs life?
Moses was no ordinary agent poking around Texas border country. And he kept finding new reasons to bring his investigation to Mollyâs farm. Yet trusting himâespecially around her sonâcame so easily. She finally had someone who would speak up for her. Even if he was an undercover agent with secrets buried deep in his soul.â¦
She looked up and found him looking down at her. Even in the semidarkness, she could see the heat in his eyes.
He offered nothing but comfort, but the heat was there between them anyway. She didnât look away.
And then, in the blink of an eye, somehow everything changed. Slowly, giving her plenty of time to protest, he lowered his lips and brushed them over hers.
Oh, wow. Was this really happening? That Moses Mann would be kissing her seemed surreal on some level. He was soâ¦strong and brave and a millionaire and worldlyâeverything she wasnât. She was just a plain country girl.
They were so completely wrong for each other. Unfortunately, her hormones didnât give a damn. Need punched into her like never before, something big and scary and overpowering and completely unexpected.

Chapter One
She had that Earth Mother kind of natural feminine beauty, the type of woman who belonged at a bake sale or a PTA meeting, not in an interrogation room on the Texas border. Then again, smugglers came in all shapes and sizes.
Dressed in mom jeans and a simple T-shirtâa crew neck, so there wasnât even a hint of cleavageâshe wore precious little makeup. Her chestnut hair hung in a simple ponytail, no highlights, nothing fancy. She did her best to look and sound innocent.
Moses Mann, undercover special commando, did his best not to fall for the act. âLetâs try it again, and go for the truth this time.â
If all her wholesome goodness swayed him, he was professional enough not to show it as he questioned her. He wasnât in the small, airless interrogation room in the back of an office trailer to appreciate Molly Rogersâs curves. He was here to pry into her deepest secrets.
âWhen did you first suspect that your brother, Dylan Rogers, was involved in illegal activities?â
The smell of her shampoo, something old-fashioned like lemon verbena, filled the air and tickled Moâs nose. He kept his face impassive as he leaned back in his metal folding chair and looked across the desk at her.
