Young director Dany travels from America to Paris, where he meets Maurice and Madeleine Lacroix. The twins have become friends with the New York filmmaker and will write a screenplay together. However, Dany cannot get rid of childhood memories associated with his father and a portrait of a woman in pearls, which his beloved Madeleine looks too much like.
