She knew nothing about him. The sooner she got away from him the better.
She would stay here tonight, but that didnât mean she was spending the night in his bed. And yet, if he made a real move, if he tried to make love to herâshe knew she would find it impossible to resistâ¦.

âThey have the Rose.â
The line was silent as Ash absorbed it. âHow?â he asked.
âThey got there before me,â Haroun said. âTwo men. One said, âWeâve come for the Rose.â She had no reason to challenge them. As she said, they looked the part.â
âWhat does that mean?â
âSwarthy, apparently. He walked in and she said she led him to the coffee table, where Rosalind had told her it was. He glanced at the ornaments and picked it out without much hesitation. So he knew what he was after.â
Ash muttered a curse. âDid you get a description? Apart from all-purpose Arab?â
âNot of him. His companion has a scar high on his right cheekbone. Pulls the eyelid down a bit,â Haroun said. âNow, does that sound familiar, Ash?â
âHalf the veterans of the Kaljuk war have some kind of facial scar,â Ash said. âWhere does that get you?â
âWell, it reminds me of someone, and itâll come to me.â
âLet me know when it does.â
âWhat have your hackers found in Verdunâs computers?â
Ash grunted. âWhat theyâve found is the best firewall in three continents. We canât get in.â
Haroun paused, thinking it over. âWell, weâve got to know how he learned about the Rose so fast. Iâd better get over to Paris and see what a direct assault will achieve.â
Ash hesitated. âThereâs an air traffic strike brewing in France.â
âIâd take the train anyway. Faster.â
âYour predilection for faster is just what worries me. Youâre too headstrong for this stuff, Harry. I donât want you trying to break in to Verdunâs offices. A guy with that kind of firewall on his computers is going to have good protection on the physical plant, too. Go to work on one of his employees.â
