Rosie will do anything to protect her home on the Isla Del Reyâeven marry Xavier! Sheâll provide him with an heir, in exchange for him leaving the untouched beauty of the island intact. But can she trust her charming new husbandâor his devastating kiss?
âI think we should get married.â
Xavierâs eyes widened. âI beg your pardon?â he said faintly. âAm I imagining things, or did you just propose marriage?â
âThatâs exactly what I said,â Rosie confirmed.
He looked incredulous.
âIt would solve all our problems,â she said. âYours especially,â she hurried on, âSo it seems to me to be the sensible thing to doââ
âSensible?â He raked his hair with exasperated fingers.
âYou need an heir, or youâll lose your half of the island to me, and unless youâve got someone in mindââ
âI donât.â
âThen...â
âBetter the devil I know?â he suggested grimly.
âYou canât buy me outâyou should know that by nowâand if we marry you get to keep your share.â
âWhatâs in it for you?â
âEverything,â she said bluntly. And nothing, she thought. âA secure future for the islanders and the island,â she insisted, ignoring the chill in his eyes. âSo will you consider my suggestion?â
She had no idea what Xavier was thinking as he stared into the fire. Her best guess was that this was Xavier the businessman, weighing up the odds.
âI canât believe youâre serious about this,â he said, looking around at last.
âYouâd have my full cooperation,â she stressed, sensing the faintest of possibilities that he might say yes.
âI would certainly expect your cooperation in bed.â

CHAPTER ONE
âTHIS IS A private beach...â
Rosie had to raise her voice to reach the big, brutal-looking man lowering the anchor on his sleek black launch off shore. Heâd stilled, so she was sure heâd heard her, but for some reason heâd chosen to ignore her. Waving her arms made no impact at all.
âDamned invaders,â Rosieâs late elderly employer, Doña Anna, would have said as she waved her walking stick at any sailors bold enough to drop anchor near her private island. âYou canât swim here! This is my island!â Standing belligerently, with her crab-like hands planted firmly on her bony hips, Doña Anna would continue to berate visitorsâwhom Rosie had always thought couldnât do much harm if all they wanted to do was enjoy the crystalline waters and sugar-sand beach for an hour or soâuntil they took the hint that they werenât welcome and left for kinder waters.
