âI think itâs time you come clean.â
Her hands continued to shake.
Wilderâs eyes softened as he led her to the table and into a chair. She didnât want thisâthis feeling of needing him. But part of her relished that he was here. Protecting her. It wrapped around her heart and caressed it until it was warm and pliable. No. She closed her eyes. She would not let herself react this way to him.
âCosette?â Wilder sat across from her, leaned forward on the table. âDid he hurt you?â
âNo. I think I scared him. Interrupted him.â
âInterrupted him doing what?â His voice was low and icy.
âDrawing that heart. Sifting through my things.â She couldnât stop shaking.
Wilder got up from the table and pulled her into his powerful arms. âHow long has this been going on?â
Cosette couldnât keep this a secret any longer. Wilder would lose all faith in her when he discovered the truth that she wasnât the put-together professional he thought her to be. âThe first time or this time?â
Wilder stiffened.
Dear Reader,
I have enjoyed writing this series, especially Wilderâs story. From the beginning, I knew he was going to be a complicated character, but one I believe many of us can relate to. To feel comfortable, he has to control every situation and outcome. When he canât, he feels weak and afraid. The truth is, none of us have supreme control and we have to rest in the knowledge that God alone does. And I think that boils down to the trust factor. Do we truly trust Him in all situations? Can we trust Him to work everything out for good? Can we trust Him when the reports are bad? I encourage you (and myself) to spend some time in prayer and ask God to help us see areas where we can surrender to Him and trust Him to see the outcome throughâthen trust Him with that outcome! I love to hear from readers. Please email me at [email protected] and sign up for my newsletter at www.jessicarpatch.com and get âPatched Inâ to new releases and book news/deals.
