âI really did scare you, didnât I?â
Edgar asked, wrapping an arm around her. âYour heart is beating like crazy.â
Dee pushed herself away from him as she inhaled the scent of his spicy aftershave. âIâve just beenâ¦â She couldnât tell him sheâd been reading about him. Let alone daydreaming about working together.
âYou were just what?â He studied her intently. âAre you sure youâre okay, Dee?â
She tried to shake it off. Between the phone call sheâd received and feeling that someone had followed her into the libraryâ¦and thinking about Edgar, there were plenty of things to be shaken up about.

To Carol Steward, selling a book is much like riding a roller coasterâevery step of the process, every sale brings that exhilarating high. During the less exciting times, sheâs busy gathering ideas and refilling her cup. Writing brings a much-needed balance to her life, as she has her characters share lessons she has learned, as well.
When sheâs not working at the University of Northern Colorado, you can usually find her spending time with her husband of over thirty years, writing and thanking God she survived raising her own three children to reap His rewards of playing with her adorable grandchildren.
Throughout all the different seasons of life, God has continued to teach Carol to turn to Him. She has also learned to simplify her life and appreciate her many blessingsâHis gift of creativity, sharing her love for God with readers and setting an example of what God can do when we say, âYes, God, take me, shape me, use me.â To find out more about Carolâs slightly crazy life and her books, visit her Web site at www.carolsteward.com.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
Something had to be wrong. The caller ID showed her sisterâs number, and Lauren knew not to call her at work.
âDeandra Owens, how may I help you?â she answered out of habit. âSorry, Lauren. Whatâs up?â
âItâs happening again, Dee. Thereâs another warning on the Web site.â
Dee hadnât heard Lauren this frantic in weeks.
âLog on the site, now,â her sister demanded. âHurry!â
Dee swung her chair to the computer and moved her mouse to pull up the site. âMagnolia Falls: Where Are They Now?â scrolled to the top of the computer monitor and the photograph from the reunion began to load. âWhere?â
âSomeone put a picture of the group at the reunion on there,â Lauren said.
âI did,â Dee said with a sigh of relief.
âYes, on the home page, but, itâs in the blog nowâwith flames burning over it.â
âYou canât be serious!â Her mind raced to the angry posts theyâd received in the guest book. Dee stared as the blog loaded, her pulse racing. She scrolled through the comments, then came to the digitally altered photo posted by Anonymous and gasped. âWho would do this?â
âThe police never even figured out who sent that entry last month.â
Dee looked for some clue, ignoring her sister.
âThe one telling us that someone on campus isnât who they seem to be.â
âYes, I remember,â Dee said. âIâmââ
The fear in Laurenâs voice returned. âWe have to do something.â
The police hadnât given the Web site much attention, claiming pranks and inappropriate postings were pretty common on any public site. Dee stared at the photo in disbelief. Who would have such anger toward those at the reunion?
âDeeâ¦â
âWhere are you, Lauren?â
âIâm at Sethâs with Jake. Seth has a late appointment today.â
Lauren had had enough scares in the recent months. Dee didnât want to see it start all over again. âStay put and lock the doors.â Dee looked up to see, Edgar Ortiz, the assistant director of admissions in her doorway, pointing at his watch. âThanks for calling. Iâll call you back after the press conference.â
âDee, you ready?â The handsome Brazilian made her heart flutter, even when she wasnât under stress.
