The killer hauled Zoe in front of him and lifted his weapon.
She stared down the barrel, and a sob caught in her throat. âI didnât see anything.â Okay, that was a lie, but it was the first thing that had come to mind. âThe lady looked dead. He was standing over her, and I assumed he killed her. I could be mistaken.â
She wanted to laugh through the sob. She was going crazy, seconds before she was going to die.
The killer grinned, more of a sneer. âWrong place, seriously wrong time. And you just couldnât let it lie. Well, turns out neither can they.â
âI wonât say anything. I promise.â
âToo late. Youâve drawn attention to yourself. Now theyâre convinced youâll blab, and that canât happen. So instead of taking you to them, Iâm ending this. No more scare tactics. No more threats. Problem solved.â
Them? Realization dawned on her that he was going to kill her, and she moved. As fast as she could. Everything in her screamed to run.
He pulled the trigger.
Dear Reader,
Thank you for taking the time to read this book. I so appreciate you, and the fact that it is an investment of your time and money each time I write a story. I hope you were entertained by Zoe and Judeâs journey to being a family.
The past hurt Zoe had experienced colored the way she saw the worldâespecially menâand how she saw the Lord. But God brought her through a journey that enabled her to trust Him and find happiness for her and her son, with Jude. He is a gracious Father who loves to draw us to Himself, and I am thankful for that every day.
